 About Jordyn

My life has been defined by a passion for storytelling.

I’ve always been curious about how others view the world. Stories allow me to share in others’ experiences, visit faraway destinations, meet new people, and much more. I find it incredible that a specific arrangement of words on a page can provoke real emotions and express life-changing truths.

This enthusiasm has motivated me to write my own stories and help other authors shape theirs. As writers, we put extensive effort into convincing our audience that our plots actually happened, our characters are human beings, and our settings are as tangible as the readers’ hometowns. With every word we write, we create a story that has never before existed in the history of the world.

How I Got Started Writing

I’ve been writing since I could henpeck stories on my family’s old computer, and I haven’t stopped since. Growing up, I experimented with graphic novels, fanfiction, and short stories. In eighth grade, my historical fiction short story won a prize and was printed in the ACSI Creative Writing Winners book.

I write contemporary and science fiction novels that feature found family, close friendships, witty humor, and coming-of-age stories. For anyone who is familiar with the Save the Cat! story genres, my favorite story types are Golden Fleece (road trip), Rites of Passage (life change), and Fool Triumphant (underdog). I seek to write stories that are enjoyable for a wide range of readers and are free of objectionable content. I’ve completed several full-length novel manuscripts of my own, including The Time Travel Team: The Great Historic Mystery. In the near future, I plan to rewrite and republish this novel as a special anniversary edition. For further updates, sign up for my newsletter!

As a reader, I explore a variety of authors and genres, including contemporary stories by Francine Rivers, Charles Martin, Karen Kingsbury, and Kathy Buchanan; historical fiction by Tessa Afshar and Stephanie Morrill; and speculative fiction by Daniel Schwabauer, Katherine Briggs, and Nadine Brandes.

How I Got Started Editing

As I explored creative writing, I also discovered that I had a knack for noticing typos, grammatical errors, and ways to improve stories. (In addition, I discovered a penchant for the Oxford comma.) When I became part of the Clear Water Press online writers’ community, I edited numerous novels that won prizes in the community’s annual Student Novel Contest.

I recently graduated from Liberty University with a B.S. in Creative Writing: English and a Minor in Professional Writing. After graduation, I participated in a one-on-one mentorship with a professional editor.

As an author myself, I understand the daunting challenge of editing a manuscript with an objective eye. That’s why my purpose is to come alongside you and be your book’s cheerleader as you shape your story into a masterpiece.

I support writers throughout the process of brainstorming, solving plot problems, strengthening characters, clarifying sentence structure, and correcting typos. To learn more about my editing services, please visit this page.

Each week, I’ll share some writing tips on my blog. For example, I developed the Character House, a model designed to help writers think about their characters in a new way. Stay tuned for further details!
